Message from the President Shri Karnal Singh

Dear Friends, 12th March 2014 Thank you for your continued support & patronage for the Annual Meet on behalf of the Governing Council and Organising Committee for an overwhelming response. The Annual Alumni Meet 2014 of the DCE-DTU Alumni Association was organised at Air Force Auditorium & Lawns, Subroto Park, New Delhi on 11th Jan 2014. A huge gathering of over 1200 persons, including families of 800 plus alumni enjoyed the celebrations & fellowship networking. Alumni from batches 1951 to 2013, span of 62 batches, participated with great enthusiasm. Hasya Kavi Samellan by leading poets Padma Shri Ashok Chakradharji, Shri Mahendra Sharma & Shri Deepak Gupta had the audience laughing through the evening. Chief Guest Hon’ble Union Minister for Communication & IT and Law & Justice Shri Kapil Sibal conferred the Distinguished Faculty Awards to Prof. Ashok Bhattacharyya (Electronics), Prof. R. K. Selot (Civil), Prof. R. C. Sachdeva (Mechanical), Prof. J. S. Brar (Mechanical) & Smt. Sushma Jain (Mathematics). Shri Kapil Sibal also gave Distinguished Alumni Awards to Shri Anil Kaushal, Member (Technology), DoT and Shri Surya Kant, President for North America, UK & Europe at TCS. Vice Chancellor Prof. PB Sharma along with Prof. S. Maji, Dean Industry Relations and other HoDs from DTU also graced the annual meet. Shri Sanjay Diwan, Chairman – Events of the Association welcomed the Chief Guest, dignitaries, faculty & alumni to the Annual Meet with theme being “Celebrating Excellence & Innovation” and shared the new logo which epitomizes the same. He mentioned the need for a stronger Alumni Connect with the Alma-Mater by engaging with students, faculty & management. In my address, I shared & applauded the achievements of our august alumni and shared the vision of enhancing the support for the university through an alumni foundation. I proposed new initiatives and changes which were accepted & approved by the overwhelming majority of the General Body by the voice vote. These are: 1. Launching membership for students as Student Members, who after graduation can pay the Alumni Membership Fee and take up Life Membership. 2. Nominated & appointed Shri Sanjay Diwan, Chairman - Events as a Vice President of the Executive Committee with immediate effect. And that in the absence of the President for any reason, Shri Sanjay Diwan will Chair the meetings of the Executive Committee & Governing Council. 3. New Article of Association has been drafted and circulated and requested the members to review the same and provide their valuable inputs by the end of January 2014, which is being extended to end March 2014. Earlier, Vice Presidents – Shri SM Mahajan & Shri Suresh Raheja welcomed the Chief Guest Shri Kapil Sibal and the Vice Chancellor Prof. PB Sharma respectively. Shri NK Sharma, General Secretary shared the annual report on alumni activities. We were delighted to have with us Group Captain RS Bhola, an alumnus of 1951 batch, as the senior most alumni present during the meet. He was a proud member of Indian Hockey Team which won the Hockey Gold for India at the 1956 Olympics and Silver medal in 1960 Olympics. He was felicitated by the Chief Guest. He also gave away the Awards to meritorious students of the final year at DTU. The Golden Jubilee Batch of 1964 & the Silver Jubilee Batch of 1989 alumni were felicitated by the Vice Chancellor and Governing Council leaders. I compliment the Executive Committee and also the Organising Committee led by Shri Sanjay Diwan, Chairman-Events with Shri Dipti Mal, Secretary-Events for a very impressive meet. I like to make a special mention of the contributions by Shri Sunil Gautam, Shri Arun Gupta & Shri Varun Tangri as Organising Committee Members. In my address, I shared that the scheme of batch coordinators was launched last year, however the response was lukewarm. You are invited to volunteer as Batch Coordinators for your batch as we look to expand the activities of the association. If you are interested, please send your names to Shri Sanjay Diwan or myself. We gave a Special Tie with new DCE-DTU Logo inscribed on it to the Life Members of the Association at the meet. Tie will be used to promote the DCE-DTU Alumni brand. The gathering of alumni and their families provided apt warmth and savored the hot food in the chill of Delhi winter.
